Secret Proposals & Engagement Sessions in the Florida Keys

(From a Florida Keys engagement photographer who’s been hiding in bushes for years)

Planning a secret proposal can be both exciting and mildly terrifying. You want it to be meaningful, beautiful, and most importantly – actually stay a surprise. That’s where I come in.

As a Florida Keys engagement photographer who specializes in secret proposals, I’ve helped plan and photograph plenty of “she said YES!” moments, and the process is way simpler than you might think.

Step 1: The Game Plan

It all starts with a call. We talk through your vision, your personalities, and what kind of moment you’re imagining. Romantic and quiet? Laid-back and fun? Sunset with epic views?

From there, I’ll suggest locations that are open, scenic, and easy for me to blend into. One of my go-to spots is Fort Zachary Taylor State Park in Key West – it’s gorgeous, versatile, and gives me plenty of space to stay discreet while keeping you both in sight.

Timing-wise, late afternoon into sunset is usually perfect. The light is soft, the colors are unreal, and it flows nicely into dinner plans afterward.

Step 2: Recon Mode

On the day of the proposal, I arrive a bit early to get oriented. Beforehand, I’ll ask for:

  • A quick selfie of you two
  • A description of your outfits
  • What you’re driving

This makes it easy for me to spot you without accidentally following the wrong couple.

Once you arrive, I keep my distance and pretend to photograph nature, birds, trees – very convincing stuff. Sometimes I subtly make myself known to you, just so you know I’ve got eyes on you.

Step 3: The Moment

About 10 – 15 minutes in, when the crowd thins out and the light is just right, you pop the question.

Once the big moment happens, I give you a few minutes to soak it all in. Then I come out of hiding, properly introduce myself, and we roll straight into a relaxed, fun engagement session with zero pressure and lots of laughs.

Step 4: Sunset, Celebration & Photos

We wrap things up with sunset photos, you head off to celebrate (I’m always happy to suggest nearby romantic dinner spots), and I get to work editing your gallery.

If you’re looking for a Florida Keys engagement photographer who will help you plan, stay calm, hide effectively, and capture the real emotions as they unfold, you’re in the right place.

And yes… she usually says yes. 😉
